convict BM
27th Febuary 1787 Dear journal, Today I was tried at the Old Baily. I had chains aroundaround my ankles and wrist. The judge said "What is your crime"? A guard answered "Highway robbery and assault" " You should be put to death" "Please I said." "I'm only 31!" " Fourteen years transportaition" I was so relieved. Some runners came and took me. I'm a silk dyer and I don'y get much pay. So you see why I did it, I'm only trying to keep my family alive! I've got a wife and two boys. I'm afraid of what awaits me in New South Wales. There might be monstersor what if I die on the way. I will wright later.
